Frequently Asked Questions About Assessments at Bralivo
What is ADHD?
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and activity level. Individuals with ADHD may experience difficulties with concentration, planning, organization, and regulating energy and emotions. Symptoms can present differently in children, adolescents, and adults. An ADHD assessment can provide clarity regarding both challenges and strengths and serve as a foundation for appropriate support, treatment, and adjustments in school or working life.
What is the difference between ADHD and ADD?
ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) is commonly used to describe a presentation of ADHD in which hyperactivity is not prominent. Instead, difficulties with attention, mental fatigue, concentration, and task initiation are more central. Individuals with ADD may be perceived as daydreaming, passive, quiet, or slow in processing information. An assessment can help clarify the underlying causes of attention difficulties and provide guidance for appropriate support and treatment.
What is Autism (ASD)?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects social interaction, communication, and patterns of behaviour. Individuals with autism may experience difficulties interpreting social cues, adapting to change, and managing flexibility. At the same time, many individuals have strong special interests and a heightened attention to detail. An autism assessment can help explain long-standing challenges related to social interaction, communication, and relationships in school or working life. It can also contribute to greater self-understanding and provide a foundation for appropriate support and accommodations.
What is an ADHD assessment?
An ADHD assessment is a comprehensive and structured evaluation designed to determine whether underlying symptoms related to attention, concentration, impulsivity, and activity level are present. The purpose of the assessment is to gain a clear understanding of both strengths and challenges, and to evaluate whether the diagnostic criteria for ADHD are met so that appropriate support can be provided. A formal diagnosis is always determined jointly by a licensed psychologist and a physician (psychiatrist), who carefully review the findings before concluding whether the criteria are fulfilled.
How many different types of ADHD are there?
According to current diagnostic criteria (DSM-5), ADHD is divided into three presentations:
- Predominantly inattentive presentation (previously referred to as ADD)
- Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation
- Combined presentation
We offer assessments for ADHD, including the predominantly inattentive presentation (often called ADD), as well as autism assessments in Gothenburg and other locations.
An ADHD assessment typically includes structured interviews, standardized testing, behavioural observations, and a medical evaluation to establish a diagnosis and provide tailored recommendations. We use evidence-based methods to ensure accurate and thorough evaluations.
Assessments are available for both children and adults.
Because symptoms are often complex and may overlap with other neurodevelopmental conditions, we also offer comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments that evaluate ADHD, autism, and related conditions.
What does it cost?
Prices may vary depending on the scope of the assessment and any additional services required. You will always receive a clear and detailed cost estimate for approval before the assessment begins.
Please refer to our price list for further information.
How long does an assessment take?
The process usually takes 2–6 weeks, from the first consultation to the final feedback meeting. The exact timeframe may vary depending on individual circumstances and scheduling.
How do I know if I or my child may need an ADHD assessment?
If you, as an adult or your child frequently experience difficulties with concentration, impulsivity, distractibility, or challenges in school, work, or daily life, an assessment may be a helpful next step. A professional evaluation can provide clarity and help determine whether ADHD is present, as well as guide appropriate support and treatment.
What happens after an ADHD diagnosis?
After a diagnosis, you will receive guidance on the next steps. This may include adjustments at school or in the workplace, psychological treatment, medical treatment, or other interventions aimed at improving daily functioning and quality of life. We help you identify the most appropriate support based on your individual needs. Our goal is to ensure that you feel informed, supported, and confident about the path forward.
Do I need a referral?
No. At Bralivo, you can contact us directly and book an initial consultation without a referral. During this appointment, a psychologist will assess whether a full evaluation is appropriate, making the process faster and more accessible.
How do I book an ADHD assessment for myself or my child?
